The Cultural Life Index 1997 – 2007 |
|
In 2005, CSCDC measured the dynamics of the cultural sector in Romania, using the methodology of The Cultural Life Index. By combining the indicators for the production of cultural goods, for the number of cultural institutions and for the proportion of the audiences, we analysed the evolution of the cultural sector between 1998 and 2003. By using data from the National Institute of Statistics and the above mentioned methodology, we will continue the same analysis for the period between 2004 and 2008. |

Compendium for the Public Policies of the Council of Europe |
|
The Centre contributed in the last years to filling in the questionnaire on the Romanian cultural policies. The compendium for policies and cultural tendencies in Europe is designed by The Council of Europe as a comparative analysis of the cultural sectors of 41 European countries (www.culturalpolicies.net). This year we will update the presentation of Romanian case, in order to follow the new guide elaborated by the organisers. |

Comparative Statistics on the European Cultural Sector |
|
![]() |
In 2005, CSCDC completed a comparative international study of the countries’ cultural statistics. The data suggested several similarities for Eastern European Countries (a critical state of the cinema network, an average dimension of the library network, a relatively high availability for visiting museums etc). The included data was limited to the level of 2005 and this year we will update the comparative analysis with data from 2007 in order to reflect Romania’s position |
Cultural Tourism and the Culture of Visitation of Heritage Sites |
|
![]() |
One of the obstacles in the development of tourism and cultural tourism is the culture of visitation of heritage sites. The displays, the orientation within the sites, the presence of specialised staff or the lack of souvenirs discourages potential visitors. In order to identify other elements which deter visitors, we plan to do a fieldwork research on the culture of visitation. We will compare two groups of sites: some which attract visitors and also have mechanisms for the management of visitors and others which are comparable in value but attract few visitors. |
The Ministerial Reunion of the International Network for Cultural Policies (RIPC/INCP) |
|
This year CSCDC will continue the participation to RIPC/INCP by collecting the questionnaires from the countries participating to the international conference of the ministries of culture, to be held in Bucharest in 2009. CSCDC will also complete a report on the role of culture in the economy of knowledge. |

Cultural Activities Undergone by the Economic Agents in Bucharest |
|
![]() |
In the last years in Bucharest numerous clubs, bars and terraces develop independent cultural activities which include debates, music shows, theatre shows, and exhibitions. In this context we have designed a study intended to map this independent cultural scene of Bucharest. It is focused on the cultural events (debates, music and theatre shows, exhibitions) organised by economic agents, on the setting up of spaces such as clubs, bars and terraces by cultural institutions and on the contribution of companies and corporations in sponsoring cultural events (concerts, exhibitions, shows, festivals). The methodology will include interviews with club and bar owners, as well as with the artists who perform in such spaces and private sponsors. |
The Cultural Sector in Bucharest |
|
As a follow-up of the previous studies we set out to gather a selection of data and studies on the cultural life of Bucharest. Its purpose is to make a diagnosis on the infrastructure, resources and cultural consumption in Bucharest. The study will be based on official data supplied by the National Statistics Institute and by the local public administration. We will support the analysis and interpretation of official data with maps of the spatial distribution of infrastructure, resources and cultural consumption in Bucharest. We intend to collaborate with the Bucharest Municipality and to complete the project with a publication. |

The Contribution of Copyright-based Industries to the National Economy between 2006 – 2008 |
|
![]() |
The study on the cultural potential of Romanian cities envisaged an evaluation based on the score of each city by taking into consideration the INCDT suggestions. We considered the four categories of the cultural sector: historical monuments of national interest, museums and public collections, folk art and crafts as well as performance arts institutions and concert institutions. Besides the calculation of this score, the contribution of CSCDC to this study, carried out in partnership with several public institutions, was to establish a database as a result of the information received from the Ministry of Culture. The Centre also designed maps describing the distribution of anthropic resources, of tourism, folk art and crafts, of technical and touristic infrastructure and the potential of tourist development. The results indicate Baia Mare, Suceava and Neamt as the most developed regions, the first one from the point of view of anthropic resources and the latter two from the point of view of folk arts and crafts. The index of touristic resources indicates a wide distribution of the areas with potential, except for the South and South-West development regions. Also, the regions with lower tourism potential are South, South-West and a part of the North-East region. |
International Comparative Study on Heritage-Related Legislation |
|
There are various issues involving overlappings and gaps in the legislation on cultural heritage protection. Starting from the insufficiencies found and from the experience of other European countries, we will finalise a set of proposals on the improvement of laws and of the national heritage protection programmes. |
